Beijing Short Doc: Last Night With Bedstars
I followed The Bedstars as they rock through one last performance at Beijing's legendary rock-and-roll spot D-22 before it shuts down for good.
Thanks to Kai, Xuan, Chris and Fan for a memorable evening.
Short Film: Dinosaur Rider Trailer
The Beijing punk band Bedstars from my previous documentary come back to reenact a script I wrote based on their lives. Dinosaur Rider is a song they wrote about youthful restless love . Part documentary, part fiction, the film paints a vibrant portrait of what it's like to be young and punk in contemporary China. Check out More Story Behind the Film:

Exit Through the Garage Sale: Spy Glasses Experiment
Through the surreptitious lens of a spy camera hidden in her glasses, the filmmaker takes the audience on a meditative amble inside one of New York City's best kept secrets: the Antique Garage Flea Market, full of colorful New York characters and even more colorful collectibles from the past. The shoppers in the film do not display any self-consciousness in front of the concealed camera, which captures them at their most natural state of browsing, wandering, playing frisbee etc. But an unexpected celebrity encounter breaks the dreamy rhythm. The filmmaker is caught staring at him. Can he tell that she is filming?
This film tries to document and remember the garage market in its final days, before the garage is sold and leveled to make way for a hotel. The antique market was my favorite memory of my Chelsea days, because the old things told me stories of New York from a bygone era. I once came across folders of slides from Woody Allen's unknown movie from the 70s. I bought $1 postcards of Manhattan landmarks from the 1900s, and picked random photographs from a box of old pictures like it’s the lottery. Those days of me getting lost in the market time-traveling were now also a fragment of a distant past, a fading memory. I have very little to show for it, but for this little video.
Music Video: Sayonara Forever by Love Spread
Brooklyn based experimental bitpop/post J-pop duo Love Spread - Ryota Machida and Narumi Iyama - creates music experiences that are out of this world. Ryota passed away unexpectedly in 2018, but their legacy is indelible. More from their debut album”Sayonara Forever” HERE . My favorite song of theirs is Bloody Nose North Park
Love Spread created the theme song for the movie “We are Little Zombies” by Makoto Nagahisa.
